Nehra did clean-up for Farewell match in Delhi, not to play IPL again

Team India’s left-arm fast bowler Ashish Nehra has announced that he will say goodbye to international cricket after the one-off T20 match against New Zealand on November 1. The match, which will be played in their home ground Delhi, will be their farewell match.

Nehra said in a press conference before the final and decisive T-20 match against Australia, “It feels good to retire when people ask ‘why’ questions more than ‘why not’. I have spoken to Team Management and Chief Secretary MSK Prasad. There will be nothing more than telling me goodbye to the game in front of the domestic audience.

Nehra said, “I played my first Ranji match 20 years ago on the field of Delhi’s Ferozeshah Kotla. I always wanted to retire with success. I think this is the right time and my decision has been welcomed. ‘

Nehra, 38, gave head coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli with this decision. India and New Zealand will play a three-match ODI series and three Twenty20 matches from October 22.

After this, there will be no T20 International match in 2018. Nehra said that it is right to give more opportunities to youngsters who are doing well. He also said that he will not play IPL anymore.

Nehra, who played his first match for India in 1999, has played 17 Tests, 120 ODIs and 26 T20 matches. He has taken 44 Tests, 157 ODIs and 34 T20 wickets. He will be remembered for taking 23 wickets against England in 2003 World Cup in Durban and taking six wickets.
