The central government had formed a panel to clean up the river Ganga. This panel has drafted the National River Ganga (Rejuvenation, Safety and Management) Bill, 2017. According to the proposal, those who violate the rules have a provision of up to 7 years of punishment and fine of up to Rs 100 crore. If this proposal passes and takes the form of law then the problems of those affected by the Ganga can increase.

Under the leadership of Retired Justice Giridhar Malviya, this committee has also suggested that a one kilometer radius of its Chief Assistant Rivers related to Ganga be declared a ‘Water Conservation Zone’. However, the committee has also suggested that it be prepared by scientific research within six months after the implementation of this zone bill.
