On June 22, 1962, Russia, in the United Nations Security Council, used its 100th veto in support of India on the Kashmir issue. Indeed, in the Security Council, Ireland submitted a proposal against India regarding the Kashmir issue, which supported Ireland, Chile and Venezuela besides the United States, France, Britain, China (the permanent members of the Security Council). Behind this proposal, there was a large conspiracy of Western nations against India. Its purpose was to take Kashmir away from India and give it to Pakistan, but Russia played friendship with India and foiled this conspiracy.

In the Security Council, Russia openly supported India and vetoed against the Irish proposal. Russia’s help did not allow the proposal against India to pass. Earlier in the year 1961, Russia also used the 99th veto for India. This time Russia’s Vito Goa was in favor of India on the issue. Besides this, Russia has been using its veto against Pakistan and in favor of India. From Russia’s nuclear and space program, Russia has often contributed with India in development work. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has felicitously praised the friendship between India and Russia in an article written in Russian newspaper Russiaiskaaya Gajeta. India and Russia are not only diplomats but also economic, social and cultural relations. Even in difficult circumstances, Russia-India got the test of friendship.

Today Modi will attend the annual summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During this time, the two sides will sign several agreements and all eyes are on the agreement related to Russia’s assistance for the last two units of India’s largest nuclear power plant. Significant contribution to the industrialization of India

Russia assisted India in setting up of Bokaro, Bhilai and Visakhapatnam factory, Bhakra-Nangal hydro power plant, Durgapur plant, thermal power stations in Neyveli, Electricity venture in Korba, Antibiotics plant in Rishikesh and Hyderabad pharmaceutical plant. Russia also assisted in establishing Research Institute of Petroleum Industry in Mumbai-based Indian Industrial Institute, Dehradun and Ahmedabad. In a written article to the Russian newspaper on May 31, PM Modi said that India and Russia are among the emerging big economies in the world.

Space and military support
Russia has been continuously helping India in the space and nuclear program. India launched the first satellite Aryabhatta in 1975, which was prepared with Russian help. In 1984, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma went to space from Russia’s Soyuz T-11 space shuttle. With this he became the first Indian to go to space. Apart from this, there is strong defense relations between the two countries. There are always military exercises between the forces of India and Russia. India created a missile like Russia’s Brahmos. Russia shared its military technology with India. India also buy many weapons from Russia.
