Bihar cabinet decisions: study of silt in river Ganges under the supervision of Dr. Rajiv Sinha, Professor of IIT

Patna: The state government will study the rapidly growing problem of silt and its diagnosis in river Ganges. This study will be under the supervision of Dr. Rajiv Sinha, Professor of IIT, Kanpur. He has been appointed as a consultant.




It was approved at the state cabinet meeting on Tuesday. After completing the study in six months, its report will be submitted to the state government. 42 lakh 93 thousand rupees have been sanctioned for this.

After the cabinet meeting, Cabinet Secretary, Brajesh Mehrotra said that 23 Agendas of different departments have been approved. Apart from studying the problem of silt in the river Ganga, it has got approval for the administrative approval and allocation of IIT professors to make a consultation.

Rajiv is a professor of earth sciences at IIT-Kanpur and his interests lies in river morphology and dynamics, flood hazards, ecology linkages, remote sensing, geographical information system (GIS) applications and climate change.The state cabinet on Tuesday sanctioned Rs42.93 lakh for a detailed study on siltation in the Ganga between Farakka in West Bengal and Buxar in Bihar over a period of six months.
