Rajkummar Rao’s political satire ‘Newton’ is India’s official entry for Oscars 2018
Amit Masurkar’s film ‘Newton’, which is heavily lauded by the critics, will go to the Oscars. It has been nominated from India for Best Foreign Film category. The selection committee of the Film Federation of India has done this announcement on Friday. Decided to send Newton to Oscars from 26 films Rajkumar Rao has played the main character in the film.
Apart from Rajkumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Sanjay Mishra, Anjali Patil, Raghubir Yadav have played important roles. The film was released on September 22 on nearly 350 screens. Sanjay Dutt’s bhoomi who was released on this day, received more than 1800 screens. Rajkumar Rao has expressed happiness in sending the film to the Oscars.

Other Indian films to go to Oscars
Before the ‘Newton’ in the foreign language category, Apur Sansar (1959), Guide (1965), Summary (1984), Nayakan (1987), Parinda (1989), Anjali (1990), hey Ram (2000), Devdas (2002) , Harichandra Factory (2008), Barfi (2012) and Court (2015). Only three Indian films reached the final list. These included Mother India (1957) of Mehboob Khan, Mera Nair’s Salaam Bombay (1988) and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan (2001).
