Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who arrived at Nathula in Sikkim to visit the Indo-China border, told the meaning of ‘Namaste’ of Chinese soldiers. On Saturday, Nirmala interacted with Chinese soldiers and told them what the meaning of the greeting was. China’s soldiers also warmly responded in Chinese language and greeted them with folded hands.




A minute and a half minute video has been posted on Defense Minister’s Twitter handle in which this full dialogue has been shown. After the boundary dispute in Dokalmal, the tension between the soldiers of the two countries had increased considerably, the visit of Nirmala could also help in restoring peace in the area.

The Defense Minister visited the area and interacted with ITBP officials. Defense Minister reached Nathula road, 52 kilometers away from Gangtok and negotiated with the army and ITBP officers stationed there. During this time Chinese soldiers from across the border were taking pictures of them.

Lieutenant General Abhay Krishna, Chief of Eastern Command, told Defense Minister Sitharaman on security preparations on the China-India border in Sikkim sector . Lieutenant General Sarath Chandra, the Chief of the Army, was also present there. After the passage of the border zone of the Defense Minister, after nearly 70 days of deadlock in Dokalmal, India and the Chinese army had gone after more than a month after the passage of time. He later met Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling at his official residence and asked the state government to intervene on various issues including land issues between the Army and the State Forest Department.
