RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Thursday took a jibe at BJP leaders celebrating completion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s three years and cabinet ministers dining at houses of Dalits.

“These leaders choose to dine at Dalits’ houses but avoid eating with them fearing they might catch infection. These are political dramas,” he said making an oblique reference to Union minister Nitin Gadkari and other BJP leaders having lunch at a Dalit’s house in Ranchi on Thursday.

Prasad, who arrived in the state capital to attend a court hearing on June 9 in connection with a fodder scam case against him, announced that a huge rally “BJP Bhagawo Desh Bachawo” would be held in Patna on August 27. He appealed to all opposition parties in Jharkhand to join the rally to make it a big success.

“The Modi government has failed on all fronts. We have ousted the BJP barefooted from Bihar. The BJP faced a crushing defeat in the recently held Littipara byelection in Jharkhand,” Prasad said while talking to mediapersons here in the state guest house at Morhabadi.

Referring to the recent police lathicharge on inter students in Patna, Prasad said it was wrong to adopt repressive measures to quell students’ protests.

“Police could have resolved the issue amicably through talks,” he said adding, “I had personally talked to chief minister Nitish Kumar to convince him that such methods should be avoided as these students are our own children.”

Talking about irregularities committed in the intermediate examination results, Prasad said, “Bihar schools are being run by teachers appointed during my chief ministerial tenure. Blunder crept in after teachers were appointed by mukhiyas.”

Prasad will appear before a special CBI courto n Friday.

The court of special judge Shivpal Singh had sought Prasad’s appearance to communicate to him the revival of conspiracy and other charges against him in a fodder scam case related to a fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 90 lakh from Deoghar treasury.

The case is at the final argument stage and the CBI is expecting judgment in a couple of months.

Prasad had suffered a major jolt in the fodder scam case on September 30, 2013, when a trial court in Ranchi held him guilty in the first of the six cases against him.

The conviction got him five years in prison, disqualification from Parliament and a ban on contesting elections. He was given bail by the SC in December that year.

Meanwhile, former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra on Thursday appeared before the CBI court here in connection with two fodder scam cases lodged against him. These cases were related with fraudulent withdrawals of AHD funds from Dumka and Doranda treasuries.
