EC seeks action on those raising questions, demands rights of contempt

Now after the EVM tapering controversy, like the courts now, the Election Commission should also have the right to act of contempt. That is the demand of the right to act against contempt of the constitutional institution like the Election Commission, and the people who speak out against the Commission. The Commission has written to the Law Ministry in this regard. About the constitutional rights so far, the respected Election Commission has written this letter to the government in view of the circumstances so that people do not spoil their image by making baseless allegations on constitutional institutions.

In the recent days, especially as opposing parties, by scolding the Election Commission as acting as an agent of the ruling party, the commission is trying to make such people or organizations stand in legal courts and teach them a lesson. By writing the government letter, it has been recommended to amend the court’s Contempt Act 1971 and bring constitutional bodies like EC to the purview of this right. The Commission has also mentioned the right to take action against the contempt for the Pakistan Election Commission in this regard.

The Commission has considered a big question to say anything against constitutional institutions and even tarnishing the image by questioning the integrity of the Commission and its members. Its strings directly connect with Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal had mudged a few months ago by making political comments on allegiance of election commissioners. But now the commission wants to teach such people and institutions a lesson. The officials of the Law Ministry have also confirmed the letter from the commission saying that the government will consider this demand of the Commission.
