One of the biggest impact players in limited-overs cricket – Yuvraj Singh has always been a star since the days he made a sensational debut for the men in blue during the ICC Knockout Trophy in Nairobi. Though he didn’t get a chance to bat in his first ODI, but, the Chandigarh-lad didn’t take too long to announce himself on the big stage against the mighty Aussies in his second outing in coloured clothing.

He was a storehouse of talent at the onset, a rare blend of grace and power, but for the better part of his 17-year-career, Yuvraj Singh has been an enigma as well as a paradox in Indian cricket.

Standing on the cusp of his 300th One-day International, it still remains a difficult task to describe Yuvraj in a nutshell. On Thursday at Edgbaston, Yuvraj Singh will become the fifth Indian cricketer when defending champions Team India will take on Bangladesh in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

Here is a list of Yuvraj’s five best ODI hundreds during a career spanning over a decade:

■ 139 vs Australia – Playing in Sydney in the seventh match of the VB series on 22 January 2004, Yuvraj produced a magnificent 139 against Australia, which arguably remains one of his finest batting effort overseas where he not only stabilized Indian innings with VVS Laxman who also scored a gritty 109 not out, but also slammed Ian Harvey for 22 runs in the penultimate over taking the score to 296. Although India lost the rain-interrupted match, but Yuvraj’s swashbuckling century showed that he had match-winning capabilities.

■ 107 vs Pakistan – While India had already clinched the five-match ODI series against arch-rival Pakistan in March 2006, the target of 286 was still considered competitive and Pakistan was playing for pride. But, Yuvraj along with M.S. Dhoni easily powered India easily to victory clinching the series 4-1. Yuvraj, with an unbeaten 107 off 93 balls, is named Man of the Match and also Man of the series. It was also Yuvraj’s first century against Pakistan.

■ 103 vs South Africa – Yuvraj scored 103 off 122 balls, inclusive of 10 boundaries and three sixes, after the top order failed miserably in the South Africa-India ODI series in November 2005. While India lost this match by 5 wickets, India managed to draw the 5 match series. Also, Yuvraj scored three centuries in the season and all three came under pressure.

■ 110 vs West Indies – Playing in the sixth match of the Indian Oil Cup in Colombo on 7 August 2005, Yuvraj steadied Indian innings to 262 with 110 after top order got early. The match is remembered for Yuvraj’s angry gestures towards the dressing room showing his annoyance at coach Greg Chappell’s criticism of his batting. India won the match by 7 runs.

■ 118 and 4/28 vs England – The second ODI between India and England at Indore on 17 November 2008 saw Yuvraj contributing both with bat and ball in the team’s 54 runs win. Batting first, India posted 292 with Yuvraj’s 118. He later picked four crucial wickets, including of Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen.
