Bihar:Nancy murder case: Two uncles taken on 2-day police remand
In the Nancy Jha murder case, police on Tuesday took the two accused, both uncles of the victim, on a two-day remand for the second time.
12-year-old Nancy, a student of Class 6, was strangulated to death and her decomposed body found on the bed of Tilyuga river on May 27 – two days after she went missing from her home in Mahadeva Math area of Laukahi block in Madhubani district.
The heinous crime had led to unprecedented public outcry on social media as well as locally, besides street protests in Patna and New Delhi.
Nancy’s uncles – Raghvendra Jha and Pankaj Jha – had been arrested on June 7 for their alleged involvement in her murder. Bihar police headquarters had formed a special investigation team (SIT) under Jhanjharpur ASP Nidhi Rani for a thorough probe into the case.
Nancy had gone missing on May 25, a day before her aunt’s (father’s cousin sister) marriage, and her partially decomposed body was retrieved two days later from the banks of Tilyuga river, one km from her ancestral home.
In course of probe, the SIT had zeroed in on the victim’s two uncles. The sleuths reconstructed crime scene time and again to figure out what really happened and found Nancy’s uncles ‘incoherent’ in giving their statements, which did not match other details and evidences gathered by the police.
Meanwhile, two of Nancy’s co-vilagers – Lalu Jha and Pawan Jha – who were arrested in the murder case are still languishing in jail.
The duo had been named in the FIR lodged by Nancy’s father Ravindra Jha, who runs a public school.
