Rohingyas are illegal immigrants, they will be sent to their country: Kiran Rijiju

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Myanmar, India has made it clear that it will not become a safe haven for Rohingya Muslims who have entered illegally from Myanmar. Union Minister of State, Kiran Rijiju on Tuesday said that Rohingya are illegal immigrants and they will be sent to their country. He said that no one should discourage India on this issue, because India has kept the maximum number of refugees in the world.

Rijiju said, “I want to tell international organizations whether Rohingya is registered under the United Nations Human Rights Commission or not, they are illegal immigrants in India.”

The Minister of State for Home said, “Since they are not legitimate immigrants, they have to be sent to their country, according to the law, they have to be evicted from the country because they are illegal immigrants, we are a country with great democratic traditions. so nobody should give India any lessons on how to deal with refugees,” he added.

Taking a strong position on the reported criticism of the government’s stand on the issue, Rijiju said, “We are following the legal path then why have we been accused of being inhuman.”

He said that the Center has directed all state governments to start the process of removing them from the country.Significantly, there are around 40,000 Rohingya refugees in India.

Meanwhile, two Rohingya immigrants have approached the Supreme Court and requested the central government to not send them to Myanmar. Rohingya Muslims fled to India after the violence in the western Rakhine province of Myanmar.
