LeT terrorist arrested after encounter in Shopian of Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: A militant surrendered today during an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir yesterday evening.

This is the first incident in recent months when a terrorist has laid his arms during the encounter.

Police here told that the terrorist has been identified as Adil, he had participated in terrorist activities in May this year. After encounter , he surrendered.

Police officials of Jammu and Kashmir assured him that he would not be killed, after which he came out of the wreck of a house and kept his AK-47 rifle in front of the police officers.

He told that Adil is a resident of Shopian district. He was immediately taken away from there for questioning. The body of another terrorist has been recovered from the encounter site, which has been identified as Tariq Ahmed Dar.

He told that Dar was involved in several terrorist activities.




Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General SP Vaidya had earlier said that those who have taken up arms can surrender and the government will consider their cases.

The security forces launched a search operation in Shopian and in the town of Babbug last night. They received information about the presence of militants there. Meanwhile, the terrorists started firing on the search party, due to which the encounter started.
