Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday said that this hike in fare of metro is necessary for the survival of this (metro).

In the India Economic Summit here, Puri said that it was decided to increase the fares of Delhi Metro in two installments as they have not been increased for eight years.

The minister said, “He (the Chief Minister of Delhi) believes that it should be avoided. How will world-class properties like Delhi Metro run if the rent is not allowed to be levied? Delhi Metro has been running in the national capital since 2002. At this time, it carries about 27 lakh passengers daily to their destination.

DMRC to stop hike in fares: Delhi government

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to stop the proposed hike till the completion of investigation. Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said, ” to Delhi Metro has been asked to stop the increase in fare ofdelhi metro till the completion of the investigation of the Delhi government.” The fares of the Delhi Metro will be increase Rs 10 from next month.
He said that there was a meeting between the Delhi Government and DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh for find out the solution of this problm.

Since 2009, there has been no increase in fare, whereas the input cost for the DMRC has increased by over 105 per cent in energy, 139 per cent in staff cost and by 213 per cent for repair and maintenance.
